Chateau Terre Forte

Pierre Jauffret is winemakers from generation to another one. In the family, the oldest, as known as a winemaker is A. Valladier.

In 1856, he made his wine in Rochefort du Gard ; town located between Nîmes, Tavel and Avignon. The terroir where he used to work is now the place where Château Terre Forte was born in 2000. Pierre now works in this vineyard rich of history and family roots. Aiming to soil and environment preservation, he makes his wines with an organic process.

20 hectares (50 acres) of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, old Carignan, Viognier, Bourboulenc and Grenache blanc (some of these grape varieties are more than 70 years old !) grow on several soils and specially on a chalky clay and round pebbles deep soil.

Harvested when good phenolic ripeness, each grape variety is separately vinified. Grapes are de stemmed, crushed and put into tanks for 15 to 40 days for some of them ! Traditionnal vinification with a very low (and sometimes none) sulphur quantity used preserves organoleptic qualities of the wines. A part of them ages in oak

barrels, others in vats. As far as possible , wines of the château are not filtered.

Château terre forte was born ; Mother Nature writes its history day by day, year after year, from a vintage to another vintage...
